چکیده

The key element in developing an analytical or mathematical procedure is to determine the main factors that possess potential importance in oxygen transfer process. In this paper, the factors that affect the oxygen mass transfer coefficient (KLa) in activated sludge units are determined. A dimensional analysis procedure is adopted to develop a mathematical model, which can be used for calculating these factors. A very high accurate model with a correlation factor of (98.889 %) is obtained from this analysis. The solution of the model shows that: The main dimensionless groups which controlling the oxygen mass transfer in this units are: Reynolds number, Froude number, the ratio of bubbles diameter to length of its bath in water, the ratio of water depth in the tank to tank length, and the ratio of diffusers area to tank area. Each of the Reynolds number and the ratio of area of diffusers to the area of tank have positive effect on the oxygen mass transfer coefficient. Increasing any of airflow rates, the area of diffusers coverage in the tank and the length of the path of bubbles in water significantly increase the oxygen mass flow rate while this ability can also be increased by decreasing the diameter of bubbles in the system.

Predicting diffused-bubble oxygen transfer rate using the discrete-bubble model.

A discrete-bubble model that predicts the rate of oxygen transfer in diffused-bubble systems is evaluated. Key inputs are the applied gas flow rate and the initial bubble size distribution. The model accounts for changes in the volume of individual bubbles due to transfer of oxygen and nitrogen (and hence changing partial pressure), variation in hydrostatic pressure, and changes in temperature....

Gas Transfer in Diffused Bubble Plumes

The gas transfer in aeration systems is broken into two processes: gas transfer at the bubble interface and gas transfer at the water surface. Experiments were conducted to separate these two sources of dissolved gas. Oxygen absorption was measured in a laboratory tank with air being diffused through a porous diffuser and then with nitrogen gas being diffused. The combination of these experimen...

Enhancement of oxygen transfer efficiency in diffused aeration systems using liquid-film-forming apparatus.

Surface transfer and bubble transfer both contribute significantly to oxygen transfer in a diffused aeration system. In the present study, liquid-film-forming apparatus is successfully developed on a laboratory scale to improve considerably the surface transfer via the unique liquid film transfer technique. The experimental results show that the volumetric mass transfer coefficient for liquid-f...

Supplementation of Wastewater Process Modelling Tools to Enable the Kinetic Analysis of Sewage Sludge Composting

This study demonstrates mathematical description of sewage sludge composting based on identification and separate characterisation of simple process parts. For a description of the microbial processes an aSM3-based mathematical model developed for autothermal thermophilic aerobic sludge digestion is used. The oxygen mass transfer was characterized in a separate way. The 2.964·10-3 m2·d-1 value ...
